I studied the humanities as an undergrad, majoring in American Studies with focuses in architecture and sculpture. So if I weren't an OBGYN, I would very likely be doing something related to these fields!

Interests & Hobbies
Sitting on my porch, watering my vegetable/flower gardens and houseplants, mountain biking, road biking, hiking the Wasatch, visiting the numerous nearby National Parks, skiing (mostly for the views and après part), intern Fridays.
Why Utah?
I was fortunate to attend medical school at the University of Utah. I previously did not have any connections to the state, but fell in love with the institution and the region and decided I wanted to stay. Most importantly, I wanted to train with our exceptional OB/Gyn program. A few reasons why: - The department is highly regarded for maternal-fetal medicine and is home to faculty who are leaders in the field. Utah OB/Gyn makes extensive research contributions as a member of the MFMU network. - Residents receive excellent surgical training and graduate with numbers and experience that prepare them well for immediate practice. Further, the fellow/resident balance is such that the fellows elevate the academic and clinical rigor of the program, but there are not too many fellows such that they reduce resident opportunities. - We deliver a lot of babies! - Our Gynecologic Oncology division operates out of a NCI-designated cancer center, Huntsman Cancer Hospital, one of the best in the country, and the only major cancer hospital in the mountain west between Colorado and California/Oregon. - The state has significant refugee, Hispanic and American Indian populations, and thus there are many opportunities for improving women’s healthcare access and inequities. - The state political climate demands ongoing advocacy and attention to reproductive justice. Accordingly, the department is home to a strong Family Planning division. - The hospital catchment area includes five states (Utah, Idaho, Wyoming, Montana and Nevada). We get to take care of patients who travel to the University or are transferred here, such as for fetal anomalies or advanced gyn oncology surgery, on a daily basis. Further, we are associated with one of the best children’s hospitals (IMC Primary Children’s) in the country, meaning that we have the opportunity to take care of women whose fetuses have anomalies or congenital conditions requiring high-level expertise and interventions; they are not sent elsewhere for someone else to handle. - Most importantly, I wanted to come here because of the residents. This program is rigorous and the expectations are high. The residents are hardworking, intelligent and kind people whom I deeply admired. I wanted to learn alongside them.
